Introduction
Punks Comic, initiated by NFT enthusiast and influencer Beanie in collaboration with Pixel Vault, a media company dedicated to the comic's development, merits acknowledgment. It is important to note that while Beanie contributed to the inception of both Pixel Vault and Punks Comic, his involvement in the company's ongoing initiatives is minimal.
For informational awareness, Pixel Vault is a blockchain technology company focused on leveraging cryptonative assets across a variety of mediums that was founded in 2021.
Currently, most NFT marketplaces are dominated by digital art, however, figurines, trading cards and comics have seen a resurgence during the 2021 boom particularly Punks Comic. It has been speculated to be "the Marvel of NFTs."
From it's origin, Punks Comic presented a unique opportunity as a first-of-a-kind NFT comic that provided utility to its collectors. Consisting of 10,000 NFTs at a cost of 0.2 ETH to mint, after minimal marketing from the developing, team Punks Comic went live in May 2021.
Upon purchasing, collectors not only received an NFT depicting the comic’s cover, but a fully downloadable PDF version of an actual digital comic. Full of action and suspense, the substance of the comic comes from chief storyteller Josh Blaylock and fantastically talented artists Chris Wahl (of Marvel & DC Comics) and odious.
The comic’s protagonist is Beanie, a take on CryptoPunk #8146 and its corresponding personality created by Beanie. Our protagonist becomes obsessed with finding the “Lost Robbies” – which are based off an actual set of AI-generated NFTs created by Robbie Barrat, that many presume to be lost (held by inactive or “dead” wallets).
Beanie and his team of characters catch wind of a lead concerning a Lost Robbie and set off on a mission to find it. The story pays homage to NFT influencer Beanie’s obsession with Robbie Barrat’s work, while bringing CryptoPunks to life in a whimsical and creative way.
PUNKS Comic
Meet the PUNKS! The favorite misfit crew of collectors, rebels, and crypto degens. Born out of the desire to bring NFTs to life, PUNKS Comic gives names, bodies, backstories, and a colorful narrative to some of the metaverse’s most beloved NFT collections.
PUNKS 1- "The Hunt For The Lost Robbies"
The genesis issue of PUNKS Comic, “The Hunt for the Lost Robbies”, is loosely based on the famed early crypto art given out in gift bags at the inaugural Christie’s Tech Summit in London in 2018. 300+ gift cards with instructions on how to claim the 1/1 NFT artworks by Robbie Barrat were distributed during the event, but only about two dozen have ever been claimed. As such, these works have become a significant part of NFT art history.
PUNKS 2- "X Marks The Drop"
The PUNKS are back, and this time they’re teaming up with friends from the Bored Ape Yacht Club and beyond on the ultimate treasure hunt! Featuring NFT upstarts Courtney and the PUNKS crew, they must work alongside the Apes in a race against the nefarious Frank Lopez to score the most legendary of swag. Featuring new ape on the scene, Indigo Herz in their first adventure through the metaverse.
PUNKS 3- "A Glitch In Time"
Just as it seemed life couldn’t get any crazier, the PUNKS find themselves thrust through strange portals into another world full of super-powered humans, including augmented versions of familiar faces! If GFunk, Courtney and crew are to make it back to Origin City alive, they may just have to find a way to take on super, augmented attributes themselves, and risk chancing that these “Glitch Portals” will return them to the right location.
PUNKS 4- "No Coiners"
Barely rested from the wild events of issue three, the PUNKS find themselves back home in Origin City, where they dare to take a moment to breathe. The R&R doesn’t last long, though, as Randy finds himself visited by unexpected family members and touring the “normies” around town. Meanwhile Futurist loses something priceless that ends up in the hands of the notorious Elvis Punksley. It's another fun installment of PUNKS, in issue 4: "No Coiners".
The Punks- Your Favorite Degen Hereos
PUNKS stars Courtney , Gfunk, Hilary and the Pixel Vault crew of characters inspired by actual Cryptopunk NFTs. From their central homebase (and PV HQ) in Origin City, they plot their adventures to find the latest, hottest art, swag, and NFT alpha.
